Arctic Warfare 2019

26.02.2019 – Traditionally our first game of the year: The Arctic Warfare at the Gotschaspielfeld Nord in Brożek. We have been going there regularly for 4 years and its always a highlight among the events. Unlike the BigGames, the number of players is relatively small. This means there is much more movement on the huge playing field, and even with just five people, you can really pull something off.

After a 2 hours drive from Dresden, we arrived on time 9:00 o´clock. The weather fits the scenario: the forest is white and it was a pleasant 2°-4° temperature. Still little is going on in front of the main building and we are the first to settle down in the empty beer tent.

After that we checked in and get the paint. The price is still the same as 5 years ago : 50.-€ for the box „Pro Shar – Pro Ice“. We were amazed when we saw the filling of the paintballs. It was blood red! I have not seen that in 20 years of paintball. Cool thing!

About 150 players went to the start. We met our friends from Team Defcon III and decided to play together with them at Team Blue. Then Bertl also already began with briefing.

Despite sleet and ball bursting, we gave it our all again.

Red Paint – what a surprise!

Tanks are part of the GSF as always. This time there were two convoy missions.

The game day consisted of 4 missions. In the first mission, Blue Team had to recover 3 mines on the field and bring them back to the base. Team Red had the task to prevent this. The mines could only be recovered and transported by special sappers. So the sappers had to be protected accordingly.

In the second mission, Team Blue had the task of protecting a convoy of vehicles. The convoy drove across the entire playing field. Team Red had the task to attack the convoy and destroy the vehicles using special limpet mines.

In the afternoon both missions were repeated and the sides were changed. The game was played on full field size and due to the small number of players there was a lot of movement on the field. The hotspots were constantly changing and it was possible to achieve something with just a few people – quite different from the BigGames.

The forest was white – finally playing in snow camo.

Nobody had to freeze, the tent was nicely heated and you could check your equipment without freezing.

Our convoy found its way to the finish line unscathed.

In Summary

In the end, our Blue Team came out on top by a narrow margin. Both teams managed to recover all the mines. However, Team Red had not been able to destroy any of our vehicles. Our attacks on the convoy also turned out to be difficult. However, we managed to „blow up“ the jeep, which brought us victory. After that we had one more round of Verdun and one round of Gettysburg.

We had a great game day again: we met old friends, had delicious food, drinks and in the end we took home the victory. We were also able to test our equipment in preparation for the Winter Helldays. Super!

Next year we will definitely come back! We are already curious which surprises and innovations Bertl has for us. Until then! Stay Tuned!
